Jugni Kehendi aa
Na kar bandeya meri meri
Na kar bandaya meri meri
Na yeh teri na yeh meri
Char dina da duniya da mela
Phir ban gayi mitti ki dheri
Ve jugni kehendiaa o maan vich andar vasda hai
Ve jugni kehendiaa hai o kan kan vich vasda hai
The above lines effectively asks to get over themselves, to realize that this life is mortal, and in the end all which will remain is well now a days a photo on a table, a memory for a loved one, some would be happy that you are gone for good, and for some the void never fills.
This sufi hymn by Bulle Shah, Jugni Kehendiya, I have been listening to its rendition by Tochia Raina on loop for few days now. Here is it-
Another lines in here, which string my soul are -
mecca madine tu phir aaya aur naam rakh liya haazi
ve Bulle Shah tu hasil ki kitta ne yaar ko na rakhya raazi
In Sufi songs, generally God is seen as a lover. You yearn for him, you seek him, the songs from many other Sufi saints, the entire philosphy of Sufi, i find based on eternal romance. The romance you may find in hymns of Meera (Lord Krishna). It is said that there three routes to find God, one is of devotion(Chaitanya), one is of love(Meera), and one is of friendship(Sudama). Why do people seek a higher power, what is the attraction there? We also know that God is inside all, what we are seeking is within, still we as a society allow middlemen/women to show us the path to God.
In my home office room, I have a few wall hangings, I look at them now and then whenever I find the noise of religion defying my faith.
The above lines means — it doesn’t matter how knowledgeable you are, if you haven’t understood love, you haven’t understood God. Any religion, any book on religion never teaches hatred, It teaches compassion, and to live with compassion for ourselves and for the creations of God is our utmost duty, which many fail to do.
Extreme form of religion is terror. That is what it is. No matter whether it was Islam, Christianity and now the new found Hinduism. But that is not what is the truth. But the guilible beings we are, and the insecurity we all happen to excel in, makes us easy targets.
Another wall hanging in my home office -
When there is nothing without you God, then what the noise? You will find God, if you really want to in the hymns of Chaitanya, Meera, Bulle Shah, Amir Khusaro. In the couplets of Kabir, Rahim, Ghalib. Those who have understood God, who have found the power know that it is within what they are seeking outside.
Ve jugni kehendiaa o maan vich andar vasda hai
Ve jugni kehendiaa hai o kan kan vich vasda hai
God is within, God is everywhere.
Ve jugni kehendiaa tu aankhan band kar mainu dikhda hai
Ve jugni kehendiaa tu sabnu kyon nahin milda hai
Ve jugni kehendiaa tu dil vich andar vasda aa
Ve jugni kehendiaa tu kadi ram, kadi ali, kadi gobind, kadi jesus van ghumda hai (I wrote these 4 lines, not in the original couplet)
I see you with my eyes close.
Not everyone can see you.
To find you, we need to seek within
You roam with many names — Ram, Ali, Gobind, Jesus..
Spirituality is the path to find God, and the day you start walking on it, you will find Love. May we all do.
