The pot and the butterfly

Sometimes i tell my children stories i create on a whim. One such story was about a pot and a butterfly. So one fine sunny morning, a butterfly got trapped in a pot. She tried all ways but couldn’t get out. She tapped here, and there finally the pot took notice. The pot asked the butterfly — what’s the matter, why are you tapping here and there. Do you need something?

The butterfly replied — I am trapped within you, help me to get out. The pot said, sure and it tilted. The butterfly flew out of it, and thanked the pot. As time passed they became good friends. Months passed and rains came. That year the rains were bad, and one afternoon it rained heavily. The pot got all wet, and was loosing some of its mud. It started weeping.

The butterfly who was taking shade nearby saw it, and said- Hey Pot come over here beneath the tree, the rains look bad and i don’t think it will stop soon. The pot said- Oh butterfly i can’t walk or have wings like you to fly, how will i reach the tree. The butterfly said — Just like you saved me that day, by tilting. And with the tilt, you also roll over and come to me.

The pot did exactly that and reached the tree. The butterfly and the pot sat together and enjoyed the rest of the rains.

Sometimes the power we use to help someone else, are the same powers we can use to help ourselves as well. But it takes a friend to remind them to us. So this season of lights, i hope you find that by helping other we also help ourselves, and may you keep doing it, and make friends, and spread happiness. Happy Diwali Folks!
